I have always loved the idea of writing a book. Not necessarily related to diving but more of an auto-biography. Maybe it is because I am about to turn 40 and it has been a long and winding road that resulted in me founding DiveMedia and The Scuba News. My problem is the fear of writing it. Wondering whether anyone would read it, whether anyone else would find my story as interesting as I do.
It is with this in mind that I have nothing but admiration for people who want to share their story. Those who put aside the fear and just go for it. No Damage is the great new book by Kathryn Hodgson which does exactly what I want to do. It tells the story of how she arrived at where she is now.
You may be wondering why I am promoting a “Non Diving” book on The Scuba News but the answer to this is easy. Kathryn is co-founder of the Friends for Sharks initiative (which The Scuba News is a proud sponsor of) and for someone to take their story, which is at some times painful, share it with the world and then go on to found a cause that I strongly believe in returns me to my original point of absolute admiration!
No Damage is Kathryn Hodgson’s first book and is an inspiring personal memoir of the tumultuous years leading up to the creation of Friends for Sharks.
This is the true story of a woman on the eve of turning thirty who seemingly had it all, with a successful career and home life, until her first fiancé left her at the almost-altar one Christmas and her life began to spiral out of control. This is the hilarious, brutally honest and uplifting story of one woman’s journey to survive having TWO runaway grooms whilst coping with cancer, internet dating as a thirty year old hairy legged novice and her ridiculous, enormous dogs. This is the story of turning a broken life into something brilliant.
