We are getting reports that Dr Guy Garman (aka Doc Deep), who was attempting to break the World Record for deepest dive, has failed to surface.
The dive with Scuba Tec in St Croix was planned for 1200 feet (365m) and was aiming to break the world record set by Ahmed Gabr of 332.4m.

A statement on the Scuba Tec Facebook page said “Our dive team (including his son) accompanied him to 200′ then watched his descent from there. 38 minutes later when he should have been hooking up with our Deep Diver Support team at 360′ he just wasn’t there”
Dr Garman had been diving for 4 years and had a total of 595 dives of which 200 were beyond 60m and 35 to beyond 150m. His previous deepest dive was 246m in April 2015.
Our thoughts are with family and friends at this time.

RIP. He died doing something he loved, for that he was truly blessed.
It’s a dive into the dark unknown, there will never be enough experience or experienced divers, only brave ones. The odds of such dive are there for whoever tries it. The question is: are you willing to go after your dream?

If you compare Mr Garman’s experience (4 years and 600 dives !) with Ahmed Gabr’s and Pascal Bernabé’s, the last two recordmen, in terms of background, number of dives and “what if” experience, “Too deep, too quick ” is what comes first in mind.
His death is a real pity but clearly avoidable.
RIP.
In the video I hear him say he’s been planning this dive for years. Perhaps that was his whole goal. If one comment posted here is to believed,St. Croix’s gift to tech diving … if that was the case,i I know a guy just like him take some classes and dive deep and suddenly you’re the expert to anybody that will listen /believe you. However, I send my condolences to the family . Shame but he died doing what I assume was a dream. Good job in the attempt poor excusing still impressive. Hope we find out what happened was he on a rebreather or OC? OC gas switching must have been a bitch for that depth.
