Evelio Padilla, 28, pleaded guilty to possession of and intent to distribute a controlled substance on Wednesday after attempting to smuggle 25kg of cocaine into the USA from Mexico in April using a rebreather to disguise the fact he was underwater.
Padilla stands to face up to 20 years in prison when sentencing takes place later this year.
