Join Performance Diver Manager and IDC Staff Instructor Adam on a trip to one of the best wrecks in New Zealand.
The Mikhail Lermontov was a massive ocean liner, with a total length of over 160m, who sunk in the picturesque Marlborough Sounds in 1986.
The Mikhail Lermontov, or ‘Lermy’ to her friends, now sits on her Starboard side and is almost fully intact. She rests at a maximum depth of 35m and, thanks to her impressive size, comes up to 12m or so.
The circumstances surrounding the sinking of the Lermontov are rather unusual and there is huge speculation and theories, even to this day! She has a huge amount of history ready for you to discover while diving on this wreck.
For those who are qualified and experienced, the Lermy offers heaps of penetration options but those who are not won’t feel left out – this wreck has so much to offer divers at all levels. This makes it a perfect wreck for a competent Advanced Open Water Diver or higher with 50+ dives.
We’re visiting the Lermontov on the 16th – 19th December 2016. With two days of wreck diving (up to 5 dives), it’s a perfect pre-Christmas break.
