Small towns provide big laughs. That is what Jonny Harris gets on his cross-Canada trip to bring his humour to small-population centres. His summer-time show, “Still Standing,” returns to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation June 27 and will feature the comedian on stage as well as scuba diving in the Atlantic Ocean.
Most aspiring entertainers’ goal is the “big time.” Harris is proving that seeking out the “small time” can be rewarding, too.
Television fans see Harris every week on the CBC show “Murdoch Mysteries,” a drama set in Toronto before automobiles were commonplace in Canada’s largest city. He plays the role of a loyal police officer, but one who is not afraid to express his opinions on the process of investigations.
But summer is here and Harris is ready to hit the road. Still Standing’s first show of the season features a visit to Bell Island, Newfoundland, where Harris will dive from the dive boat Ocean Quest. When he is on dry land he will get his share of laughs from the Newfoundlanders.
