In the coming weeks, The Scuba News Canada will be featuring videos by Oceana Canada on the exploration of the Gulf of St Lawrence.
This week’s feature (Log 2) The Gulf of St. Lawrence expedition is actually a coordination between two boats collecting valuable data on the ocean ecosystem, from the seafloor to the surface. Here’s a look at the team aboard the Odyssey that are keeping watch for species like whales and sea turtles.
On board were scientists, technicians, videographers and Alexandra Cousteau, Senior Oceana Advisor and granddaughter of Jacques-Yves Cousteau. This team collected samples as well as videos and images to document new areas of the seafloor. This expedition was the most in-depth visual exploration of the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada’s history and its findings will help protect habitat essential to the health of our oceans.
This Project was supported partially by a financial contribution from Fisheries and Oceans Canada.
