This week’s special guest on the popular Facebook Livestream DIVETALKS, orchestrated by Divesoft, is underwater explorer and wreck diver, Bruce Konefe. Bruce is known throughout the diving community for his extensive work in Thailand and the Philippines. He has also dived all around the world, playing a crucial role in numerous remarkable discoveries as well as written many dive courses. Be sure to tune in this Thursday, September 17th at 10 a.m. EST, and learn more about Bruce and his fascinating expeditions.
Bruce Konefe, an American-born diving professional, got his first glimpse into the underwater world in 1981 when he was serving in the Marine Corp in Okinawa, Japan. On the weekends, he picked up scuba diving with his friends and this sparked his 39-year career. Since then, Bruce has spent the majority of his time in Thailand and the Philippines discovering and documenting shipwrecks. He has led primary wreck explorations on many Japanese/US war wrecks in the Gulf of Thailand and was involved in the exploration of remote cave systems in the Philippines jungle.
With a number of diving accolades to his name, Bruce is perhaps most proud of becoming an Instructor Trainer Director for American Nitrox Divers International, after having moved there early in his career. He took a big risk in those early years, including selling everything he had to make the move. It’s a decision he has never regretted as he went on to become a PADI Open Water Instructor, discover and map 25 virgin caves in Thailand and the Philippines, and lead countless expeditions to newly discovered pottery wrecks.
There’s a good chance that many of us have learned a number of dive techniques because of Bruce. He has contributed to many ANDI courses and manuals. Feel free to ask him about his work writing and co-writing courses, such as ANDI Cavern, ANDI Solo Diving, ANDI Sidemount and Technical, etc. He even has a couple of dive manuals to his name including the ANDI Cave Specialty Manual and Full Cave/Mine Manual. It goes without saying that Bruce is the man to go to with any technique/equipment related questions. He also has a love for rebreathers, making him a great source of information if you’re interested in the subject.
You’re not going to want to miss this week’s DIVETALKS livestream, where Bruce Konefe is expected to speak on a wide range of topics. He truly has explored, mapped, and discovered more wrecks, cave systems and ancient pottery findings that we can count. He is also a wealth of information when it comes to technical diving and rebreathers, and would be happy to answer any questions you leave him in the livestream’s comment section. Join in on the action Thursday, September 17th at 10 a.m. EST and see what it’s like diving and making underwater discoveries for a living.
