2020, the year most of us want to forget. The COVID-19 pandemic, which has led to an extreme acute respiratory syndrome in those that contract it, became a major issue worldwide and has claimed the lives of many around the globe. Needless to say, it has impacted the diving industry, in an unprecedented way. This includes dive travel/liveaboards/dive shops and dive resorts. Lockdown in Canada prevented divers from travelling to their favourite dive destinations. It has been said, that it is actually safer to be underwater than to be on land.
Travel restrictions and border closings for COVID-19 are continually changing. Nonessential travel between certain destinations is forbidden, and a two-week quarantine period for travellers at the start or end of a trip was required. The Canadian dive industry fought back, and local diving in Canada resumed with many safety protocols in place.
As Editor of The Scuba News Canada, I saw this as a banner year for us. Our publication has moved forward with more sections/posts, showcasing Canadian divers and endorsing Canada as “the capital” of the diving industry.
I am thankful to each and every one of you for supporting The Scuba News Canada with articles/videos and photos showcasing Canada’s great diving. We will not be where we are today without you.
Wishing all from The Scuba News Canada a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays. Stay, Safe!
