The “Let’s Talk Aquatics: Marine Virtual Series” will be hosted by the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq (CMM) during the next two months, featuring numerous online sessions on marine-related topics. This series will concentrate on learning about particular programmes or projects, discussing and exchanging knowledge. A new subject will be included in each session.
Guest speakers and employees at the CMM will give presentations. An summary of the sessions scheduled this month is as follows;
Enhanced Maritime Situational Awareness (EMSA): 20 January 2021 – 10 am to 12 pm. This session will include instruction on the use of the online platform for the Geographic Information System (GIS). This particular platform can be used to look at what events, such as real-time marine traffic information, are taking place in local waters.
Marine Liability Act Review, January 27th, 2021 – 10 am to 12 pm. Under the Maritime Liability Act, liability and compensation for any damages or injuries will be given when there is a ship-sourced oil spill. Next month, additional sessions will take place: 3 February, 10 February and 17 February. Please keep an eye on the social media accounts of the Mi’kmaw Conservation Community for updates about these upcoming sessions.
