Dr. Chris Harvey-Clark (Dalhousie University) will describe the findings of an August 2018 expedition to collect benthic and animal samples for toxicology, and document the wreck of HMS Raleigh, a Hawkins-class heavy cruiser launched in 1921 and lost in 1922 at the site of the most prominent lighthouse in Labrador, Point Amour. HMS Raleigh’s history and the legacy of her munitions resulted in a study of the presence of explosive compound residues in the marine ecosystem surrounding the wreck.
