John Tanacredi joins Dive in with Liz and Sylvia to talk Horeshoe Crabs
Do you love horseshoe crabs? We do and we are so excited to have horseshoe crab expert John Tanacredi join us.
John is Professor of Earth & Environmental Studies, Executive Director of CERCOM (Center for Environmental Research and Coastal Oceans Monitoring) at Molloy College in Long Island, NY. Prior to academic life, he spent 24 years as a research ecologist with the National Park Service serving as the coastal parks Research Coordinator for the East Coast NPS units and as a Park Biologist at Gateway NRA in New York and New Jersey, after serving in both the US Navy and Coast Guard.
Join us as Liz, Sylvia and John talk about these remarkable creatures, their critical place in the ecosystem (especially with migrating birds), their declining numbers, and the need for banning their use as bait and use in the pharmaceutical industry.
Kids – send us your drawings of horseshoe crabs so we can share them. Include your first name and your age in your email to oceanelders@gmail.com.
DIVE IN with Liz and Sylvia is a casual, free-flowing, and educational conversation and encourages ocean and nature enthusiasts of all ages to join. Sylvia, Liz, and John will take questions via Q & A text and voice call-in from the attendees. Get your questions ready!
