Ken will be presenting on the lessons he has learned while creating Shipwreck Photogrammetry and will offer tips to help you create higher quality photogrammetry and 3D models.
Speaker Bio
Ken Merryman is past president and founding member of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Preservation Society. He is a retired computer engineer and a veteran speaker at scuba shows around the Great Lakes. Ken has been an avid Great Lakes shipwreck hunter, diver and photographer for 49 years and operated a scuba diving charter service for 40 years. Although his charter business operated mostly at Isle Royale National Park, he also frequents all of the Great Lakes diving and searching for new shipwrecks with his shipwreck hunting partner of twenty-nine years Jerry Eliason. In an effort to document the initial state of their latest finds Jerry and Ken experimented with photogrammetry for five years.
Building on this experience Ken is now leading the GLSPS shipwreck photogrammetry project to create a crowd-sourced 3D shipwreck model database for all shipwrecks in the Great Lakes. Their goal is to work with divers and organizations around the lakes to build this database. The first-year results of this project can be seen on www.3dshipwrecks.org . The last three summers Ken and friends have been circum-navigating the Great Lakes in his 1947 Owens Cruiser and have covered four of the lakes so far finding six new shipwrecks along the way.
