Bernadette Jordan is Canada’s Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard and Liz and Sylvia’s Guest.
A coastal Canadian from Nova Scotia, Minister Jordan has always been a strong advocate for the ocean. Because of her leadership, Canada has taken serious action on the removal of abandoned vessels, which pose serious threats to our waterways. Her advocacy on this issue led to the development of the Oceans Protection Plan; Canada’s $1.5 billion national plan to strengthen marine conservation and safety.
Under her leadership as Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Canada is now developing its first-ever, national Blue Economy Strategy, which is a plan to grow Canada’s sustainable ocean sectors. Minister Jordan has overseen the launch of Canada’s Ghost Gear Fund, a program to rid our oceans of lost and abandoned fishing gear.
As Minister, she is also responsible for leading Canada’s marine conservation work, and delivering on our commitment to protect 25% of Canada’s oceans by 2025, and 30% by 2030.
Join DIVE IN as Liz, Sylvia and Minister Jordan discuss how Canada has become a leader in marine conservation.
