Fins from up to 73 million sharks end up in the global fin trade every year. We must act now to ban the buying and selling of shark fins in the United States and protect sharks and our oceans.
The Senate just passed the Shark Fin Sales Elimination Act (S. 1106) as part of a broader legislative package known as the United States Innovation and Competition Act (S. 1260). Now it’s the House’s turn — a bill to ban the sale of in shark fins in the U.S. (H.R. 2811) has been introduced in the House of Representatives and currently has more than 130 bipartisan cosponsors.
The House passed a fin ban in 2019, but the Senate failed to act. Fortunately, we have another chance to ban the sale of shark fins once and for all. Your voice is especially important to our efforts to protect sharks: Your member of Congress answers to you! Sharks can’t wait.
