Location: Sylvan Lake, set up at main pier area, limited parking; just for divers & paddlers
Date: Sunday, September 18th, 2022
What: 19th Annual Lake Clean-up Dive at Sylvan Lake, Alberta
Who: Divers, Paddlers, Lake Shore Volunteers
Cost: $5 donation appreciated to cover additional replacement cleanup supplies
Hosted By: Alberta Underwater Council (AUC) and Town of Sylvan Lake
Sponsors: The Dive Outfitters (Edmonton), Tim Hortons, Town of Sylvan Lake, and your provincial scuba association: the AUC. Additional sponsors welcome
Event Times:
9:00 am Registration & Waivers
9:30 am: Beach Cleanup Safety Briefing & possible areas assigned to volunteers walking the park & beyond
10:00 am: Dive Safety Briefing, followed by fins in and paddlers (weather permitting) launched, u/w lake cleanup starts
12:00 pm: lunch provided by Town of Sylvan Lake if available
Divers – come out to collect underwater trash to keep our lakes, rivers, and waterways debris free. Mesh bags (onion sacks) and a cutting device provided by the AUC
Paddlers needed, preferably in canoes, to paddle trash back to shore & give divers empty mesh bags to continue on
Shore volunteers needed to help divers/paddlers collect, record and dispose of trash and collect trash along the shoreline. Bring your own garden gloves, sturdy shoes, wear appropriate clothing, etc. Bring small plastic containers to collect “sharps” (glass, metal, etc). Do not touch needles
All children must be accompanied by an adult & a waiver must be signed.
