Jill Heinerth is overjoyed to see her dear friend Nays Baghai recognized for his creative genius. This fall, he will release Jill Heinerth: Room To Breathe (working title), a new feature documentary.
This film is based on the life of the author of the best-selling book Into the Planet: My Life as a Cave Diver. Nays took a cave diving class specifically for this production.
About Nays Baghai
Nays, who was inspired by 1970s cinema as a child, has had a camera in his hands for as long as he can remember. Descent, Nays’ feature film debut, won Best Australian Documentary at the Oscar-qualifying Sydney Film Festival in 2020. The film has also been shown at Hot Docs, Raindance, and the International Ocean Film Festival, and it is now available on Amazon Prime ANZ. Descent will receive development funding from Screen Australia in 2021. Jill Heinerth: Room To Breathe, his next feature film, is currently in post-production.
Nays, who was inspired by The Blue Planet as a child, graduated from Australia’s national film school AFTRS and has specialized in underwater cinematography and photography since the age of 18. He holds PADI certifications as a Freediving Instructor, Master Scuba Diver, and Rescue Diver. Nays can dive to 40m with or without tanks and specializes in filming divers, big animals, and actors in a variety of genres and settings. He is JJ-CCR certified for extended rebreather dives into caves, wrecks, and other environments that recreational divers cannot access.
