Desperately in need of a break, three of us decided to head to Lanzarote to get some diving in. For Chris, it would be his first time in the water and the beginning of his new life as a fully qualified diver. For the rest of us, we just needed to get in the water somewhere warmer than the UK.
Arriving late on Saturday night we soon reached our accommodation at the Costa Volcan Hotel and Spa. They provide spacious self catering rooms for up to three people and are very local to the beach and a number of dive centres.
After spending Sunday acclimatising to the heat (27 degrees and not a cloud in the sky), we headed to Manta Diving first thing on Monday morning to meet the team.
Owned by Rachel and Ben, Manta is a SSI Diamond Training dive centre situated a stones throw from Playa Chica, which gives them access to some fantastic shore diving, as well as offering a wide range of dive locations from their boat.
As two of us geared up to head out diving, Chris and his instructor Victor began to go through the basics. Having completed all his theory online, Chris was keen to get to grips with the equipment and get in the water.
Over the following three days he completed his confined and open water dives, learned a lot of new skills, and saw his first sea horse!
While Chris was discovering all the wonders of his new underwater world, we headed off on day one to Richies Place and the Agujero Azul, or Blue Hole.
There was an abundance of life with octopus, cuttlefish, sea horses, and more. The water was warm and the visibility was good. What more could you ask for?
The amazing diving continued throughout the week with Rachel, Ben, Victor, and Adam from Manta, and various other divers of many different nationalities.
We managed to pack in dives at La Pared, Punta Tiñosa, the Wrecks, Waikiki, and had a lovely shore dive from Black Beach.
After a fabulous week we are all sad to be leaving this lovely island. We will definitely be back and Chris is already planning a return trip to complete his SSI Advanced Adventurer diving course with Manta.
If you want a chilled easy week (or more) of diving, just get in touch with the team at Manta and take it from there. You won’t regret it.
