In a major triumph for clean sportsmanship, the Association Internationale pour le Développement de l’Apnée (AIDA) joyfully announces that all doping tests conducted during the AIDA Depth World Championship Limassol 2023 have yielded negative results.
Adhering meticulously to the protocols set forth by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), a total of fifty tests were administered throughout the championship, encompassing scrutiny of the newly crowned AIDA World Record holders.
AIDA, a staunch advocate for clean sports since 2003, has consistently upheld rigorous anti-doping policies. Commencing in August 2023, the organization has collaborated with Clean Games, an independent anti-doping entity endorsed by WADA, and AIDA’s Anti-Doping Manager, Prof. Nenad Dikic. This collaboration aims to evaluate and enhance AIDA’s anti-doping approach, addressing emerging challenges accompanying the sport’s evolution.
In a bid to fortify its anti-doping stance, AIDA has outlined the following initiatives:
- Updating all AIDA documents and procedures to align with WADA standards, initiating the process of becoming a WADA signatory.
- Certifying the inaugural batch of AIDA Doping Officers by year-end.
- Launching online anti-doping education programs tailored for freediving athletes.
AIDA Unveils Cutting-Edge Anti-Doping Website
To provide a centralized resource for anti-doping information, AIDA has introduced a dedicated webpage on its official website. This platform enables individuals to verify whether medications or supplements contain substances listed on the official WADA ban roster.
AIDA strongly advises athletes using medications or supplements to routinely consult with their healthcare providers to ensure compliance with updated lists of prohibited substances. Furthermore, any requests for therapeutic use exemption must be submitted to AIDA before participating in any competition, accompanied by appropriate medical documentation.
