The Canadian-built Mary Celeste was found deserted and intact on December 5, 1872, off the Portuguese-controlled Azores Islands. She had left New York City less than a month before with a huge cargo of alcohol. However, the fate of the seven crew members, as well as the captain, his wife, and their child, remains unknown nearly a century and a half later.
