The Maritime Museum of British Columbia is seeking four local visual artists and four local musicians, bands, or solo performers to participate in its 45th annual Victoria Classic Boat Festival on Labour Day weekend, August 30 – September 1, 2024.
Applications for both the Music Program and the Artists Aboard Program are due by 11:59 PM on March 11, 2024, and will be reviewed by the Victoria Classic Boat Festival Committee. An announcement will be made to celebrate selected artists and performers by April 15, 2024.
Artists Aboard Program
“Many established maritime artists are already connected to the Victoria Classic Boat Festival: artist and shipwright Tony Grove is a Festival Judge, and renowned artist John Horton joins the Festival annually aboard Delta Lifeboat, host to St. John Ambulance volunteers,” said Events and Development Manager Anya Zanko, “we are looking for emerging artists who work with maritime or heritage boat themes to be our first cohort of Artists Aboard.”
A $200 honorarium is offered to each artist. Selected artists will have scheduled time at unique and exclusive vantage points: on the docks; aboard 1897 classic boat SV Dorothy, and aboard another classic vessel for the Sunday Sail Past. The Artists Aboard Program is open to all ages; artists under age 18 must have a guardian sign for them. Artists must be residing in Canada.
Artists are also included in the Artists’ Showcase on Sunday, October 20, 2024: a full day of display in the Maritime Museum of BC gallery at 744 Douglas Street that will include work(s) produced for the Festival and other related work, and then an evening event with invited guests from 5:00 – 6:00 PM.
