It has now been confirmed that the diver who died at Plura Cave in Norway was Jared Hires of Dive Rite. Not only was Jared the General Manager of the technical diving equipment manufacturer, but also the son of founders Lamar and Lee Ann Hires.
From the tender age of childhood, he immersed himself in the art of diving, beginning with the simple act of breathing from his father’s long hose. By the age of seven, Jared was already equipped with his own custom Transpac and double AL 13’s, a testament to his innate passion and determination.
Throughout his journey, Jared’s achievements in the diving world were remarkable. At the age of 15, he became the youngest certified rebreather diver, a milestone that spoke volumes of his skill and dedication. His exploration extended into the mysterious realms of cave diving, an endeavor he pursued with unwavering commitment. As a technical, CCR, and cavern instructor through TDI/SDI, Jared shared his expertise with others, enriching the diving community with his knowledge and enthusiasm.
Jared’s adventures took him to distant corners of the globe, where he marveled at the beauty of underwater caves in Russia and Mexico, explored the majestic fjords of Norway, and traversed the vibrant waters of the Red Sea in Israel. His experiences were a testament to his insatiable curiosity and thirst for discovery.
Our thoughts are with all friends and family at this sad time.
