A 54-year-old diver sadly lost his life on Monday morning following a heart attack during a dive off the coast of Corralejo in Fuerteventura. According to local reports, the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) reported that a call for assistance was received just after 10:30 AM from a boat transporting the injured diver back to shore.
Emergency SUC medical teams, along with a primary care doctor and nurse, arrived swiftly and found the diver in cardiac arrest, initiating both basic and advanced CPR.
Despite their efforts, the diver could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local Police cordoned off the area to facilitate the landing of a medical helicopter, which was ultimately not needed as the diver had already been declared dead.
The Guardia Civil is investigating the incident and guarded the body until the coroner authorized it to be taken for official identification and an autopsy to confirm the cause of death.
