A diver in his 60s has passed away after an incident near Plymouth, according to police reports. A BBC News report states that authorities were alerted around 1 PM on Friday, May 31, regarding concerns for the man’s welfare.
Emergency responders found the unconscious diver at Bigbury Beach and transported him to Derriford Hospital by air, where he was later declared deceased. His family has been notified. The death is not considered suspicious, and a coroner’s report is being prepared.
The Maritime and Coastguard Agency noted that the rescue effort involved a helicopter from Newquay and lifeboats from Hope Cove, Plymouth, and Sedgewell RNLI.
