A man in his 50s has tragically died while scuba diving off the coast of County Donegal. The incident occurred on Monday afternoon in the Downings area, approximately 30km out at sea.
An Garda Síochána (the Irish police service) reported being alerted to a man in distress in the water. The diver, believed to be from Belgium, was promptly rescued by the Malin Coastguard and airlifted to Letterkenny University Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was later pronounced dead.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity, and a file will be prepared for the Coroner’s Court.
