According to several sources, two individuals from Oklahoma who went missing on Wednesday while scuba diving off the coast of Texas were rescued by the Coast Guard approximately 15 miles offshore, officials announced on Friday.
The divers were last spotted at the surface in Matagorda during severe weather on Wednesday afternoon and disappeared when the weather cleared, according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Helicopter and boat crews promptly initiated search operations to locate the two divers. The team eventually found them by spotting a flashing light in the water, the department reported.
The search effort spanned more than 36 hours and covered 1,656 square miles of ocean, the department added.
The divers were taken to a Coast Guard station and are reported to be in stable condition.
