The Scuba News Canada reported in February 2024 that a gigantic shipwreck had unexpectedly appeared near the shore at Cape Ray, Newfoundland. Locals are still awaiting word on the wreck’s age and origin.
At the end of July 2024, I was able to visit the hull of the mystery shipwreck at Cheeseman Provincial Park near Cape Ray, Newfoundland. The local community were able to drag three parts of the hull and some timbers out of the water and up on the beach. I really appreciate local resident Max Lefrense for showing me some of the features of the wreck. We have confirmed that the metal sheathing on the hull is made of Muntz metal (a brass alloy), which means the wreck sank after 1832 (when Muntz metal was first patented in the UK). Neil Burgess
It is illegal to disturb the shipwreck in any way or remove souvenirs from the wreck or the beach. The shipwreck has been declared an archaeological site under the provincial Historic Resources Act.
Thanks for the updated pictures and information, Neil Burgess.
