A fundraising campaign has been launched to facilitate the repatriation of a young man from Thailand following his unexpected passing.
Robby Kinlan, originally from County Clare, passed away on January 9 at the age of 21. His remains are currently at a temple on the island of Koh Tao, located on Thailand’s Gulf Coast.
Robby had recently completed an advanced free diving course in Koh Tao, a destination known for its diving community.
In a bid to bring him back home to Ireland, friends from the Dive Academy in Inishmore, where Robby was a member, organized a GoFundMe campaign.
The young man’s mother shared an update on social media, expressing her grief and gratitude for the outpouring of support received during this difficult time. She also posted photos of the temple where her son’s body is being cared for before his journey home.
It is understood that one of Robby’s friends has remained on Koh Tao to ensure he is not left alone prior to his repatriation. The Guziuk family from the Dive Academy, who spearheaded the fundraising efforts, described him as a compassionate individual who made a positive impact on those around him.
The fundraising page highlights Robby’s love for diving and his joy at being in Thailand, pursuing his passion for underwater exploration. The campaign emphasizes the community’s desire to support his family during this challenging period and to provide an opportunity for friends and family to bid farewell.
To date, the GoFundMe initiative has raised over €38,000 to assist with the costs of returning Robby’s remains to Ireland.
