Join us for Wisconsin’s premiere Maritime History, Underwater Archeology and Scuba Diving event next Friday and Saturday, February 28th and March 1st at the Inn on Maritime Bay in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
This two-day event brings together shipwreck hunters, underwater explorers, scuba divers, maritime historians, Great Lakes shipping buffs and underwater archeologists for presentations, interactive experiences, vendor booths and book signings by some of the leading experts around the Great Lakes.
The event begins with a Friday night, 2/28, Reception a the Wisconsin Maritime Museum from 4PM to 6PM, featuring beverages and hors’ d’oevres. Registration and the exhibit halls will open at the Inn on Maritime Bay at 5PM. See the schedule before for complete event details.
The Friday night events are free to the public courtesy of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary. Admission to the full show is $25 in advance or $30 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased until February 25th at ww.ghostshipsfestival.com. Rooms are still available at the hotel, but must be booked by phone.
The Friday programs are free to the public courtesy of the Wisconsin Shipwreck Coast National Marine Sanctuary. However, you’ll want to register in order to attend the main programs on Saturday.
Friday’s program includes an excellent talk by maritime archeologist and historian John Jensen who will be presenting his research into the role of women on Great Lakes vessels in the 1800s.
John’s talk will be followed by a series of short presentations by area historians, authors and researchers including:
- 8PM: Brennan Christianson – The disappearance of the Linda E: A brief conversation
- 8:15PM: Kathy Groth – Sunken-Shipwrecks of Lake Superior, Sunken-Shipwrecks of Lake Michigan
- 8:30: Todd Gordon – The Wreck of the SS Eastland
- 8:45: Paul Ehorn – Early Scuba Diving at Isle Royale National Park

Book Signing / Author’s Table
This year’s event will feature an Author’s Table with book signings by several notable Great Lakes authors. Bring your own copies of their books for them to sign or buy a copy directly from them. Scheduled Authors include:
