A tourist submarine operating in the Red Sea near Hurghada, Egypt, has reportedly sunk, resulting in six fatalities and nine injuries. According to Egyptian media sources, the vessel, identified as ‘Sindbad,’ was preparing for a coral reef viewing excursion when the incident occurred.
The submarine had approximately 44 passengers of various nationalities on board and was stationed near the marina of a well-known hotel in Hurghada at the time of the accident. A large-scale rescue operation was launched immediately, with the Red Sea Health Directorate and the Egyptian Ambulance Authority placing emergency services on high alert. Reports indicate that 21 ambulances, as well as security and rescue teams, were dispatched to the scene.
Rescue efforts successfully saved 29 passengers, while nine individuals sustained injuries, four of whom are in critical condition. Sindbad has been operating underwater tours in the Hurghada region for several years. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the sinking.
