Greetings, fellow scuba divers… Would you like to join us as we begin to organize our trip back to Bell Island? Here are the specifics about Bell Island diving for anyone who are unaware.
Four iron-ore transports were attacked and sunk by German U-boats in 1942 lying In water between 100′ and 150′. As artificial reefs, they have drawn a wide variety of species and amazing growths of marine life during the previous few decades.
Whales are regular guests on the top deck. Additionally, Rick and Debbie Stanley at Ocean Quest Adventures offer the renowned hospitality of Newfoundland. The OQ lodge provides lodging. We make the food and you eat out.
Please let me know if you think you’d want to attend so we can talk further.
Just so you know, this is a rather difficult dive. The water is moderately deep and freezing. The majority of our dives were at or near 100 feet. It is necessary to have drysuits and cold-water regulators that are adjusted correctly. Hot underwear won’t be wasted.
Another option is to dive around an iceberg, albeit this obviously needs the iceberg’s cooperation. If you have the stamina, you can also go shore diving. We can also borrow a car from Ocean Quest to do some exploring.
Cost this year is $3959 + HST, payable direct to OQ by e-transfer, or by cc, with a small premium.
