“They’ve taken that dive many times in the past,” a witness remarked.
Provincial police have confirmed that the body of a scuba diver who went missing on Sunday afternoon in Kingston, Ontario, has been recovered.
Two longtime diving friends were being watched from shore when one of them suddenly surfaced, calling out for someone to call 911. The other diver briefly appeared at the surface before disappearing beneath the water once more.
We’ve now learned, with heavy hearts, that the diver who passed away was Chris Haslip. His father, Daniel Haslip, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook earlier today.
Chris was more than just a friend to The Scuba News Canada—he was someone we deeply respected and valued. We often turned to him for updates and insights on diving in the Kingston area. He was always generous with his time and knowledge, and we’re grateful for the many conversations we shared.
I had the privilege of visiting Chris and his dad, Dan, at their business just outside of Kingston. They welcomed us with warmth and kindness. Their passion for diving and their connection to the local community was truly inspiring. Sharing a dive with Chris was something to be treasured.
Chris will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with Dan and the rest of Chris’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
