After a fateful email from Beto of the Marúbo tribe calls her back to help tell the tale of his people, Tribes on the Edge tracks Céline Cousteau as she returns to the Brazilian Amazon. In order to discuss the health problems and threats to the land and human rights of the indigenous peoples of the Vale do Javari, Céline goes into the heart of the forest, extending her viewpoint on how this is important to our own.
From the past of invaders carrying crippling diseases all the more important to our current global pandemic, to the continuing illegal activities such as hunting, gold mining and deforestation, to the government’s disturbing abolition of all land security and human rights, the film offers more than just a story of tribal reality in the Amazon, a viewpoint on how it pertains to our life.
The film offers a viewpoint on how our future is interwoven with theirs and with nature, rather than a storey of tribal reality in the Amazon. The indigenous peoples, vital to the ecological balance of our world, are fighting to defend their homes, and as a result… they are protecting us.
