“And up through the ground come a bubblin crude. Oil that is, black gold, Texas Tea”.
From Beverly Hillbillies Theme Song
Jeremy MacDonald of “Shit I Found Diving” in Yellowknife, North West Territories is a long way from Texas and not many divers can claim that they looked for oil in Great Slave Lake, Canada. The Canadian Coast Guard called on Jeremy to help discover out what is leaking oil into Great Slave Lake.
Great Slave Lake is the second-largest lake in Canada’s Northwest Territory, the deepest lake in North America at 614 meters (2,014 feet), and the world’s tenth-largest lake. It extends for 469 kilometres (291 miles) and is 20 to 203 kilometres (12 to 126 miles) wide. It is situated in the southern part of the NWT, just north of the 66 parallel and occupies a total area of 27,200 km2 (10,502 sq mi). Hay River, known as “The Hub of the North,” is a town in the Northwest Territories of Canada, situated at the mouth of the Hay River on the south shore of Great Slave Lake. The town is divided into two sections: a new town and an old town, separated by the Hay River/Merlyn Carter Airport. The town is located in the South Slave Region, and it is one of the two regional centers, along with Fort Smith.
