Every year, we countdown to Earth Hour, the biggest environmental movement in the world. Started in 2007 by WWF and partners, it was a symbolic lights-out event in Sydney to call attention to climate change. Now, millions of people worldwide participate by taking one iconic action together: switching off the lights. Held every year on the last Saturday of March, it continues to be a symbol of hope, unity and a commitment to protect nature. This year’s Earth Hour is March 27th at 8:30pm your local time.

With over a decade’s worth of the annual lights-out event, Earth Hour is now more than a symbolic action of turning out the lights – it’s a catalyst for positive environmental change and harnesses the power of the people and collective action.
The climate crisis is still with us and has become even more pressing due to the rapid loss of biodiversity and nature. Nature provides us with food, water, clean air and other services worth over US $125 trillion a year and is our best bet to fight climate change.
2021…
is a special year where we can push world leaders to take action. In just a few months, global leaders will come together for the 15th meeting of the United Nations Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity. It’s at this conference where major political decisions for the next decade and beyond will be made on climate action, nature and sustainable development. These are the decisions that will directly affect the fate of humanity and our planet.
By speaking up for nature this Earth Hour as a community, we have the incredible opportunity to put the spotlight on our planet and spark global conversations on the urgent need for change. We can end nature loss and put our planet on a path to recovery by 2030 by influencing our world leaders to secure international commitments.
Our health, happiness and survival depends on our planet, so we hope you will join us on March 27th.
