As I spend my last few days in the UK anticipating the year ahead with my permanent relocation to Amed, East Bali. It’s been a productive first year for Dive Now Work Later. With some great collaborations underway and some VIPs visiting Bali later this year.
Amed is a warm and welcoming place, and a divers heaven on so many levels. From Macro, steep coral walls, awesome shipwrecks and sublime night dives. The accommodation is outstanding and suitable for all budgets and the food available is top notch with a vast variety to suit every budget and taste bud.
Although the pandemic has continued to affect the Island of Bali from an international tourism perspective there has still been some activity. With both local tourism and long term international residents taking up Scuba for the first time or advancing their diving skills and qualifications.
Kadek Artana from Ocean Tree Dive Shop in Amed recently qualified as a PADI Instructor. Lots of hard work has paid off for this awesome dive pro. With the refurb on the Ocean Tree dive shop almost complete and ready to reopen. I know where to go to complete my Dive Master course this year. Kadek is also heavily involved in running the local chapter of Permumpulan Pemandu Penyelam in Amed (P3A for short). In my first blog at The Scuba News I mentioned the amazing work the local dive professionals were doing in reef restoration and rebuilding . This has continued steadily and humbly through the year. P3A has now achieved official charity (Yayasan) status. The members have continued to construct the foundation blocks to then place on the ocean floor with coral implants placed with pin point precision. A great example of this type of reef project coming good is The Pyramid Site in Amed (Amed – OceanTree Bali)
This is something I hope to get more involved with as I find my feet in my new forever home. I am sure I will feel at home and settle in quickly with lots of projects to keep me busy. My first few months will be spent settling in , getting my dive log filled up and waiting for my work permit(KITAS) to finalise.
