Saltwater Sean is an ocean explorer and steward of the waters off the coast of Nova Scotia. Sean has been a freediver since he was a teenager. It started with him simply looking for interesting bottles, but he quickly realized that picking and choosing what he liked and leaving the garbage behind didn’t seem like a good idea.
Sean’s bike retrieval video, filmed in Herring Cove, Nova Scotia went viral, garnering 5.1 million views, a feat he is extremely proud of. He recently had a Zoom call with Leonardo DiCaprio and was named a “local hero” by Plastic Oceans Canada for April 2022.
Herring Cove (population: 2,790 in 2006) is a Canadian suburban and former fishing community in the Halifax Regional Municipality of Nova Scotia. It is located on the Chebucto Peninsula’s eastern shore, 15 kilometres (9.3 miles) south of downtown Halifax. It is located near the western approaches to Halifax Harbour and can be reached both from the coast via Purcell’s Cove and from the inland via the Herring Cove Road through Spryfield.
As of 2000, Herring Cove was connected to Europe via a 5,500 km (3,400 mi) cable to Liverpool, another 5,600 km (3,500 mi) cable to Dublin, and a 750 km (470 mi) cable to Boston. In 2012, Hibernia Atlantic added direct connections to London and New York City for a total distance of 6,012 km (3,736 mi), which is approximately 11% greater than the great circle route absolute minimum of 5,583 km (3,469 mi). The 2,800 m2 (30,000 sq ft) cable landing station at Hospital Point on Herring Cove continues to be the densest cluster of sub-70 millisecond connectivity on the north Atlantic, a critical link on cables connecting the English-speaking world’s financial centres.

Dive Report:
Weather conditions were bright and sunny for this dive in the summer of 2020. Depth was probably anywhere from 0-20 feet, depending on where I was in the cove.
