A 70-year-old man passed away on Monday afternoon after experiencing a heart attack shortly after completing a dive at Charco del Palo, a well-known diving location on Lanzarote’s eastern coast.
According to information from the Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) and local media reports, the incident took place around 1:50 p.m., at which point emergency services were alerted and resources were sent to the scene.
The alarm was raised via a 1-1-2 emergency call, reporting that the man had collapsed following his dive and was in cardiac arrest. Local police from Haría, the Guardia Civil, and two ambulances were dispatched to assist.
Despite the paramedics’ rapid response and efforts to revive the man using both basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), he sadly could not be saved, and his death was confirmed at the site.
Authorities have begun a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
