A 25-year-old British man has tragically died after reportedly losing consciousness while scuba diving off the coast of Vouliagmeni, a popular seaside area south of Athens, Greece. According to a report from the Mail Online, emergency services responded to the scene on Saturday afternoon, rushing the man to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The man, whose identity has not been released, was diving with instructors from a private company at the time of the incident. Following his death, Greek authorities arrested a 46-year-old diving instructor and his 37-year-old assistant on suspicion of manslaughter.
The local Port Authority is leading a preliminary investigation into the incident. It has also confiscated diving equipment distributed by the company as part of the inquiry. An autopsy will be conducted at the Forensic and Toxicology Laboratory of the School of Medicine in Greece to determine the exact cause of death.
Vouliagmeni, part of the scenic Attica coastline near Athens, is a hotspot for divers, renowned for its clear waters, underwater visibility, and relic-filled seabeds. Water temperatures in the area typically remain above 20°C from late spring to early winter, attracting enthusiasts from around the globe.
