Authorities are urging individuals engaging in diving and other water-based activities to exercise heightened caution following the deaths of two divers in separate incidents on Saturday, December 14.
In the first incident, Western Australia Police reported that a diver was found unresponsive around 10 a.m. west of Two Rocks.
Crew members aboard the diver’s vessel performed emergency first aid as they headed towards the Two Rocks boat ramp, where they were met by police, Marine Rescue Two Rocks, and St John WA. Tragically, the man, believed to be in his 40s, could not be revived.
In two other unrelated incidents off the coast of Mindarie and Hillarys earlier that morning, two individuals were retrieved from the water, both believed to have been participating in abalone fishing.
The second fatal diving incident occurred around 12:40 p.m., approximately 5.5 kilometers off the coast of Falcon. According to reports, a male diver in his 50s was reported missing.
A search operation involving a Surf Life Saving helicopter led to the discovery of the man, who was found unresponsive in the water. Peel Water Police recovered him, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The Department of Transport, Marine Rescue Mandurah, and Marine Rescue Whitfords assisted with these operations. The two individuals recovered earlier near Mindarie and Hillarys were unresponsive but breathing at the time of rescue and were transported to the hospital by St John WA.
