A tragic incident occurred in Wendell on Monday morning when a diver was found unconscious in a local lake, according to the Wake County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that deputies were dispatched around 10:11 a.m. to the 530 block of Old Quarry Road following a call about an unresponsive diver. This area is in close proximity to Mystery Lake Scuba Park.

By the time investigators arrived, the individual had already been pulled from the water by others at the scene. Emergency responders rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was treated for severe injuries.
The diver, identified as 64-year-old Brian Sheppard, later succumbed to his injuries, officials confirmed.
