On Monday 28th July 2014, one of blue o two’s Red Sea fleet vessels, M/Y blue Melody, suffered an on board electrical fire.
The electrical fire was contained to the engine room and was suppressed quickly using available fire fighting equipment and the on board CO2 fire control system. Three members of the on board crew were taken to hospital, were successfully treated for smoke inhalation and have fully recovered.
The guests on board M/Y blue Melody were evacuated for their own safety and were taken back to port by another of blue o two’s Red Sea fleet vessels, M/Y blue Horizon. They were then able to continue their diving safari as planned aboard M/Y Red Sea Adventurer.
Tina Rees-Pedlar, a guest on board, said “It was handled in a completely professional manner and blue o two did everything they were able to do to ensure our holiday continued.”
Another guest, Trevor Cooper, says “The situation was handled very well and very professionally. Very impressed with the way that blue o two handled the whole situation. Kept up to date very well, given options as to what would happen. Not at any time did I feel that my life was in danger.”
M/Y blue Melody is currently undergoing some repair work and will be back in the water soon to escort guests around some of the best dive sites in the Red Sea.
