How much stuff will you give and receive this holiday season? Add it to the growing pile — the 30-trillion-tonne pile. That’s how much technology and goods humans have produced, according to a study by an international team led by England’s University of Leicester. It adds up to more than all living matter on the planet, estimated at around four trillion tons.

Many people don’t really know what’s in our oceans. When asked to name a species, we’re likely to mention an adorable marine mammal, such as a whale. Whales are indeed amazing animals, but there are plenty of other species in the ocean that make up a diverse and fascinating ecosystem. Here are just some of the unique species found in Canada’s oceans that you likely haven’t heard of.

Getting back in the water. Sometimes, life, the universe, and everything conspire to keep you out of the water. It happens. The trick is making sure you get back in the water safely. Some may have noticed that I’ve been pretty light on posts here for the last year or so; that’s because I’m one of those divers right now. So how am I going to get back in the water?
